2023-2024 Officers Chosen – Bill Smith New Faithful Navigator

At its May 22, 2023, regular meeting Pope John Paul II Assembly 3293 elected its officers for the 2023-2024 Columbian Year. (Most Assembly officers are elected for one-year terms, but it is generally expected that the higher officers will serve two terms in each office. This was the year for the election of new members to those offices.)

Heading the slate as the new Faithful Navigator is William Smith, FDD, PGK (15217), who served as Faithful Captain for the 2022-2023 fraternal year. (See Bill’s program for the year in the Faithful Navigator’s Corner.)

The new Faithful Captain is Robert Keeling, FDD, PGK, PFN (15217), who has recently served as Faithful Pilot and Color Corps Commander, a position in which he will continue. Bob also served as grand knight of St. Catherine of Siena Council 15217, Pittstown, for the 2022-2023 fraternal year.

The new Faithful Admiral is retiring Faithful Navigator Herman Martin, PGK (15217).

Faithful Scribe Mark Kubian, PGK (15217) will be serving his second term.

Faithful Comptroller Jay Bohn, FDD, PGK, PFN (3294), was re-elected for a third term.

Re-elected for his ninth term as Faithful Purser was Dennis Baucom (10627).

The new Pilot is Michael Miciak (7581).

Re-elected as inner and outer sentinels were Wayne Bachenberg (15217) and Edward Burdzy (7581).

Retiring Faithful Admiral Floyd Campbell, Jr., PGK, PFN (15540), was elected to a three-year term as a Faithful Trustee. Floyd will continue as a battalion commander in the color corps.

The office of Faithful Friar is appointed rather than elected. Fr. John Primich (3294), the only friar the Assembly has ever had, will serve his fourteenth term. Trustees are elected for three-year terms. Battalion aide Christopher McPherson, PGK, PFN (15540), and Wayne McKay, FDD, PGK, PFN (6930), have two and one years respectively left on their terms.

Outgoing Faithful Trustee William Cerwinski, PGK, PFN (10627), becomes the second member to complete the Assembly’s cursus honorem, having spent two years as navigator, two years as admiral, and six years as a trustee. The Worthy Master will install all assembly officers in a district-wide event on Thursday, September 14, 2023.
